Things to Do in Forest Hills with Kids Ages 0–4

If you’re raising little ones in Forest Hills, you probably already know how lucky we are to have so many options for activities, classes, and play spaces nearby. Whether you’re looking for something musical, active, or just a cozy place to read together, here are some of my favorite local spots for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers — all mom-tested and approved.

Music Together with Music and Me

There are a lot of music options in the neighborhood, and I’ve tried most of them. But the one I kept coming back to is Music Together.

Classes here aren’t about a teacher performing at you — the main instrument is your own voice, no matter how well you can carry a tune. They’re very strict about no cell phones during class and require full parent participation — which honestly feels like such a refreshing change from other programs we’ve tried.

Studio E — Tiny Toes and Me

I’ve been going to Studio E on and off since 2007! I first signed up for a parent-and-baby class with my son, and it became one of our favorite ways to burn energy in a controlled environment.

The teachers are full of energy, there’s music and tumbling, and it’s perfect for crawlers and new walkers who need a place to move.

Rose Academy of Ballet

Absolutely the best parent-and-me ballet class in the neighborhood. What makes it special? Live piano, sweet sing-along songs, a well-run curriculum, and a parachute at the end!

We started Rose Academy when my daughter was just shy of two, and it was the cutest class we’ve ever done. Highly recommend for littles who love to move, twirl, and dance.

Libraries of Forest Hills

We have two main libraries — one on 71st/Queens Blvd and another on Metropolitan/70th. Both have dedicated kids’ areas, plus free programs like toddler time, painting, and parent playtime.

Spending time around books is one of my favorite ways to connect with my kids, and you can’t beat the fact that it’s all free.

Hot Shots Basketball

We haven’t personally done this one, but a lot of my friends have and love it — especially for toddlers! Hot Shots offer classes starting as young as age two, both outdoors and indoors depending on the season.

The coaches are great with kids, and their communication is top-notch (which goes a long way when you’re juggling nap times).

Take Me to the Water

Full disclosure: my husband is the swim parent in our family, but this has been a great experience for both of our kids.

The program is located right off Austin Street at the Forest Hills Jewish Center, with small class sizes and flexible scheduling. It’s such a win to have a pool so close — and if you can’t make it there, Commonpoint is just across Queens Blvd.

Forest Hills Youth Athletic Association (FHYAA)

A local staple — we started my oldest here for soccer, and it’s been amazing. FHYAA offers programs for kids as young as 3, plus flag football, basketball, baseball, and softball.

It’s entirely volunteer-run and community-led, and no one working there gets paid — which says a lot about the heart behind it.

New York Hall of Science

Technically outside Forest Hills, but worth the trip. If you have a toddler or preschooler, this is the spot for rainy or cold days.

They have a toddler and baby section, foam and building areas, and even reciprocal membership perks at the Long Island Children’s Museum. Bonus: free parking!

Honorable Mentions:

Musiquita: they have bilingual classes at Dream City!

All Star Dance: brought my kiddo when she was older so I can’t speak to the baby classes

Work and Tot: a game changer when you have some work to crank out and need your kiddos to be occupied

Little Tigers: karate/self defense and discipline? This place is definitely a neighborhood staple
